Hello

My own journey has been one that has involved the peeling away the layers of my difficulties, the wrong assumptions, the humiliation and tears to find my strengths and abilities.

   I’m 2e.

I didn’t know that growing up; in fact I only knew enough to ask the questions, and find the answers when I was in my 40s. As a child I was told I was lazy, that I should try harder, that if I concentrated and learnt 10 spellings a night the problem would be solved. Unfortunately for me, like many others, it is not a simple case of trying harder. If I had been able to solve the problems I had, and reduce the regular humiliation I felt in the classroom  â€“ I would have done so. Being made to stand in front of the class and spell diarrhoea was a ridiculous task. Especially when I was struggling with simple words like does, though, library, environment.

With much support over many years, I am now a Doctor of Education focusing upon counselling and advocating for the twice-exceptional person.

My passion is to assist you and any young people you know to get closer to their goals and dreams. It’s not easy, but it is attainable.

As you will have seen Kids Like Us was started to support twice-exceptional young people. We achieved many changes but the Covid repercussions made continuing with the business impossible. I have continued the counselling and advocating for 2 years, but I now feel it is time to pass the baton on. This web site will be updated as often as possible. It is not the full picture but some of the ideas and resources I have used. I have kept the information Australian as much as possible.

Thank you to all who have travelled and will travel with me. I'd love to hear your stories.
